Safety, Health and Security
While we encourage students to enjoy all the University
of Richmond campus has to offer, the safety of our summer students is
a primary concern.
The University offers a very safe and crime free
environment for students. The University of Richmond maintains an active
crime-prevention program. The University of Richmond Police
Department is the only accredited private university law enforcement
agency in the United States. UR campus police is a full service law
enforcement agency providing services 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The primary purpose of the Campus Police is to support
the academic community through maintenance of a peaceful and orderly
community, and the provision of general emergency services and protection
of life and property on campus. The Police Department provides an escort
service for female students between the hours of 7 p.m. and 2:30 a.m.
throughout the week. In addition, women's residence halls are equipped
with an access system, whereby students need to be a resident of a particular
hall in order to go beyond the lobby area.
Faculty and staff will supervise all off-campus excursions
and planned program field trips, while resident assistants and staff
will chaperone social events, organized for the students on-campus.
Student resident assistants will live with the students at all times.
The University of Richmond will make arrangements
with local health care providers to attend to medical needs which may
arise during the summer. We host over 400 students of this age each
summer on two Governors School programs, so we have experience in how
to prepare for the unexpected. We take our responsibilities towards
under-aged students very seriously. We can assure you that every appropriate
step will be taken to provide a safe and secure learning environment
for each scholar.
