University of Richmond Bridge to Success

Logo: Bridge to SuccessThe Bridge to Success program is an incredible opportunity. This student-focused program has been designed to create life-long learners who will succeed in the most rigorous of academic climates. Not only will students be exposed to the challenging academic life of the University, they will bond as a team during such experiences as the high ropes course at Challenge Discovery. Bridge to Success promises to be an exciting and beneficial program for all involved.

As a transition program, Bridge to Success prepares first-year students to meet the rigorous demands and expectations of the University’s academic program. The program eases the first-year student into college living and learning. Participants will take one three-credit course during the program. In addition, the students will be required to enroll in Interdisciplinary Writing Skills (English 100) and Analytical Writing (English 199), which last the entire six weeks of the program. Participants will receive a total of six credits for these courses.

By participating in Bridge to Success, incoming first-year students will not only learn to cope with the pressures of college life, they will also build relationships with peers and faculty/staff members who will support them through their years at UR.

Policies and Practices
We want all our students to have a great experience in the Bridge to Success Program. We try hard to make this both an enjoyable and challenging time. As with all programs at the University of Richmond, we expect you to take personal responsibility for your behavior and actions.

By attending Bridge to Success you are agreeing to abide by the following rules:

  1. Attend all mandatory program activities.
  2. Attend all classes and other course-related activities on time.
  3. Attend all classes and other course-related activities.
  4. Complete all course work on time and turn in all assignments on time.
  5. Respect all Bridge to Success and University of Richmond employees.
  6. Refrain from drug and/or alcohol use
  7. Respect the rights of others.
  8. Follow all University of Richmond and Virginia state regulations.

The Learning Agreement
The benefits past Bridge to Success participants have received in academic, social, and personal skills are immeasurable. During Bridge to Success, all students participate in a focused and rigorous program of academic classes, supervised self-study sessions, and social events.

Faculty and staff will work with students from the beginning of the program to define and reach agreement on individual learning goals in which the student plays a major role in defining his or her own needs and expected outcomes. Students and staff will agree on targets for each individual and measure progress and achievement against these goals. This will be a written agreement that will allow staff to focus on the real needs of each student.
